Who is responsible

The website christophe-cholot.com is published by the company SWNG, 66 rue de Rome 75008 Paris, France. SWNG is responsible for the personal data described on this page (the data controller).

Contact: christophe.cholot@gmail.com

You can read this site without filling in any form. We don't sell your data and don't use it for advertising.

The contact form

When you send a message from the contact page, we receive your first name, last name, email address, phone number if you give it, and your message. We use them only to answer you. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).

Your message is stored in our database at our host, Scalingo, in France. Your last name, email address and message are encrypted there. A copy is emailed to us: Postmark sends it, and it arrives in our Gmail mailbox, hosted by Google.

We keep your message and its email copy until you ask us to delete them, or until we no longer need them to answer you.

Audience measurement, without cookies

We count visits ourselves, on our own server, with Ahoy, an open-source analytics library. It sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device.

For each visit we record the pages you read, the page that brought you here (with any campaign tags in the address), your browser's user agent (which names your browser, operating system and type of device), and your IP address with its last part removed. Visits from the same shortened IP address and browser count as the same visitor. When a contact message is sent, we record that it was sent, never what it says.

This data stays in our database at Scalingo and isn't shared with anyone. It is deleted after 13 months; only daily totals are kept longer. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in knowing how the site is used (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR). You can object to it at any time by writing to us.

Cookies

This site sets one cookie, _statics_session. It holds a session identifier, a security token that protects the forms against forgery and, on the contact page, the values of the anti-spam check: the time the form was shown and a value computed from your IP address. This cookie is strictly necessary, so it doesn't need your consent, and it expires when you close your browser.

There is no advertising, analytics or other tracking cookie on this site, from us or from anyone else. That is why there is no cookie banner.

Security and server logs

The server writes technical logs about each request: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested and the page you came from, your browser's user agent, and what the forms you send contain, except your email address. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure. Our host, Scalingo, keeps them for one year.

If a page fails, an error report with the same details is emailed to us, through Postmark, to our Gmail mailbox.

To block abuse, the server counts each IP address's requests over a few minutes: for example, no more than 7 messages a minute. These counters are kept only in the server's memory.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the site secure (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).

Who else handles your data

  • Scalingo (opens in a new tab) hosts the site, its database and its logs, in France.
  • Postmark (opens in a new tab) sends us the emails about your messages and the error reports. It is based in the United States; its data processing terms include the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
  • Google (opens in a new tab) (Google Ireland Limited, in Ireland) provides our Gmail mailbox, where those emails arrive. Google may process them on its servers outside Europe, including in the United States, where Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
  • Cloudflare (opens in a new tab), in the United States, runs cdnjs.cloudflare.com, from which every page loads a stylesheet. Like any server your browser contacts, it receives your IP address and your browser's user agent.
  • LottieFiles (opens in a new tab) (Design Barn, Inc., in the United States): once you have sent the contact form, your browser loads a short animation from its servers, which receive your IP address and your browser's user agent.

Your rights

You have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To use these rights, write to christophe.cholot@gmail.com. We answer within one month.

If you think your rights are not respected, you can complain to the CNIL, the French data protection authority: cnil.fr (opens in a new tab).

Changes

If the way this site handles personal data changes, we will update this page and its date.
